La Inauguración del aeropuerto nuevo esta programada para el 10 de septiembre El Aeropuerto Internacional Mar de Cortés será inaugurado el próximo 10 de septiembre por el presidente de la República, Felipe Calderón Hinojoza, el secretario de comunicaciones y Transportes, Juan Francisco Horcasitas, el gobernador Eduardo, el alcalde Heriberto Rentería Sánchez y el presidente del grupo Mayan, DanielChavez orán, concesionaria de la terminal aérea. El aeropuerto cuenta con una pista de 2,500 metros de largo y 45 metros de ancho, así como dos plataformas: una comercial y otra general. El Capitán Alonso Domínguez Ruiz ya fue designado como administrador de la nueva terminal aérea. Con el inicio formal de operaciones del Aeropuerto Internacional Mar de Cortés se espera un repunte en el turismo nacional e internacional en la medida que este destino turístico aparecerá en el mapa mundial. De hecho este aeropuerto ya fue utilizado durante la reunión de gobernadores fronterizos celebrado en septiembre del 2007 a la que asistió el presidente Felipe Calderón. Ese mismo día será inaugurado el Centro de visitante de la Reserva de la biosfera el Pinacate.
